Secondary Research ' The History Of Tattoos'
History of Tattoos
Tattoos have been around for thousands of years. The earliest evidence
of known of tattoos on actual bodies the earliest known were for a long time in
Egyptian and were present on several female mummies dated ‘2000’. Following the most recent discovery of
the Iceman from the area of the Italian-Austrian border in 1991 and his tattoo
patterns. The history of tattoo began over 5000 years ago and is diverse as the
people who wear them.
The word ‘Tattoo’ is said to have to major derivations- from the
Polynesian word ‘Ta’ which means striking something the Tahitian word ‘tatatu’
which means ‘to mark something’. Inserting colored materials beneath the skins
service creates tattoos. The first tattoos were probably created by
accident. Somebody had a small
wound and rubbed it with a hand that was dirty with soot and ashes from the
fire, once the wound healed, they saw that mark stayed permanently.

Oetzi the Iceman
Since discovery of the remains, researchers have been able to do a
little but guess that this most primeval type of tattoo was designed with the
intent of fending off evil spirits, or that it may possibly have been a
particular kind of rite of passage.
Oriental Tattoos
In Japan, tattoos had been originally used on clay figures; These human
shaped figures represented a deceased individual and have been found in the
sepulchers of the person in whose likeness they were designed. The tattoos were
embossed or painted on the faces of the figures. It is believed that these
markings have religious or mystical connotation. The figures have been found to
be in tombs that have been dated from 3,000 BC.
What are the benefits of getting a tattoo?
There isn’t really any benefits of getting a tattoo expect to please
you. Some people don’t like the
thought of tattoos but other people may envy yours and have a create obsession
with getting them. Tattoos are
very much in fashion today and very popular.
Advantages and Disadvantages
There are quite a lot of different advantages and
disadvantages about having tattoos. There are many good things and bad things
as well. Most people who get
tattoos get them for the symbolic meaning. Although there are some who get
tattoos to get them for the look but then many ending up regretting getting the
tattoo later in life.
Health Risk Of Getting A Tattoo
There are many different health risks with getting a tattoo.
·
Allergic Reactions
·
Skin Infections
·
Psoriasis
·
Tumors.
Due to the use of needles in tattoo application,
there is also the risk of contracting infectious diseases such as tetanus,
herpes simplex virus, HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis B and V and even Syphilis. And those
with the tattoos might not be able to get a life saving Magnetic Resonance
Imaging test if they needed one. Some hospitals and testing locations refuse to
do an MRI on people with body tattoos due to the metal particles in the tattoo,
which may cause a burning pain during the test.
The biggest allergy the customer needs to worry
about is the Latex, as the tattoo artist usually uses latex gloves. Even if you only have a slight allergy
to latex you might want to ask the tattoo artist to chance the type on his
gloves as he will be doing a lot of stretching to the skin and touching already
tattoo areas. Which then can lead to swelling, irritations and more discomfort
than necessary.
Some tattoo artist use A&D ointment instead of
Vaseline for covering the finished tattoo and this has cod liver oil in it as a
major ingredient. Therefore if you have an allergy to fish oil, this can cause
enormous problem for you and your tattoo and can even send you to the hospital
as well as ruining your tattoo.
Research ( Secondary& Primary)
Research
Secondary Research
What is secondary research?
Secondary research is the most common research method in the
industry today. It involves processing data that has already been collected by
another party.
Secondary sources consist of data that has
already been produced and can be contemporary or historical.
Secondary sources include; Documentaries, Letters,
Diaries, Autobiographies and referencing other forms of research and using
quotes.
The benefits of the use of secondary
sources include;
·
Saving money and time
·
May provide information and
access to historical data
·
May be used to prove or
disprove an argument or theory
·
May be used to offer general
background information
·
Can be used to set the scene of
the research and its findings
·
May be useful for putting
research into context
Primary Research
What is Primary Research?
Primary research is the process of gathering information
directly from individuals who have access to it. Unlike secondary research,
primary research doesn’t focus on the published information. Primary research
sources could include competitor employers and former employers.
While primary research can address questions about past and current
activity, the goal is to learn about what the competitor is going to do; ‘ what
are the intentions and plan on the company?’ This is the reason why primary
research is competitive intelligence is the only way to really know what your
competitor and therefore the marker is going to do next.
Quantitative
and Qualitative Data
What is Quantitative and Qualitative
Data?
Some methods provide data that are
quantitative and some methods data, which are qualitative. Quantitative methods
are those, which focus on numbers and frequencies rather then on meaning and
experience. Quantitative methods,
For example; experiments, questionnaires and psychometric
tests) provide information which is easy to analyze statistically and fairly
reliable. Quantitative methods are associated with scientific and experimental
approach and are criticized for not providing in a depth description.
Qualitative methods are ways of
collecting data which are concerned with describing meaning, rather than with
drawing statistical inferences. What qualitative methods. For example;
case studies and interviews) lose on reliability they gain in terms of
validity. They provide a more in depth and rich description.
Quantitative methods have come
under considerable criticism. In modern research, most psychologists tend
to adopt a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches, which allow
statistically reliable information obtained from numerical measurement to be
backed up by and enriched by information about the research participants'
explanations.
My Proposal
Proposal
Title
Tattoo
Documentary; ‘Teen Ink’
Tattoos
Tattoos have been around for a good thousands of
years. The earliest evidence know of tattoos on some bodies body was known for
a long time in Egypt and were present on several female mummies dated ‘2000’.
Following the recent discovery of the iceman from the area of the
Italian-Austrian border in 1991 and his tattoo patterns. The history of tattoos
began over 5000 years ago and is divers as the people who wear them. The word
‘Tattoo’ is said to have to major derivations’ which is from the
Polynesian word ‘Ta’’ which means striking something the Tahitian word ‘tatatu’
which means ‘ to mark something’.
The Idea
The idea of my documentary is to see if we can stop
people at the age of 16 getting inked. Many teenagers are getting tattoos at 16
because they all think or many people think its ‘trendy’. Some tattoo artist
will ink teenagers even without parents permission but will do the tattoo
somewhere were you can’t really see.
I think
that the broadcaster/financier should broadcaster should spend all the money on
my idea because there are many young people who are currently getting tattoos.
Most of them aren’t even getting them for a specific reasons just getting them
because they think it’s a fashion. I want to try and get people to wait until
they are at least 18 and over before they have a tattoo, most teenagers don’t
understand the danger and health risk of getting a tattoo so young. So I think
that the broadcaster/financier should spend all the money or at least most of
the money on my documentary to try get teenagers to stop having tattoos so
young and show them the health risks, advantages and disadvantages of getting
inked.
Develop the idea
My
documentary will include interviews of two different tattoo artists, and
someone at the age of 16 with a tattoo to find out their opinions of teenagers
at the age of 16 getting inked. The main thing that is at stake that has
a tattoo at a young age is the risk of infection caused from the ink or
bacteria.
How will I do it?
I will approximately three to four interviews on
different people, from my parent, a young person who is thinking about getting
a tattoo at 16 or has already had a tattoo at 16 and possibly two-tattoo
artist. I will ask my mother a few questions about; ‘Tattoos when she was
younger’, how were they perceived? And when did she get her first tattoo? I
will be interviewing someone at the age of 16 and also ask them a few questions
asking’ Do they regret having a tattoo at 16? And I will then
get an interview with two different tattoo artist and ask them their opinions
on teenagers age 16 getting inked and ask them do they agree with it and would
they tattoo them with out parent permission.
Themes and Subtext
What I find interesting about my idea on tattoo
documentary is the fact that there are so many people from all ages getting
inked and not many of them know the risks of getting a tattoo. Most teenagers
are getting them to fit in with other people. I’d like to find out in my
research why teenagers don’t wait in till the legal age to actually getting a
tattoo? Why do you they want them now and not wait?
Access/ Schedule/Crew
I will have access to the tattoo artist studio to film
their interviews and I will have access to my home to interview the person who
had a tattoo at 16. I will have
access of a camera and a tripod to film my documentary and I will also have
access to my own script of what questions to ask and see how everything goes. I
will use the time wisely as I only have 10 minutes to film the whole
documentary.
Final Sum Up
I hope
after people have watched my documentary that it puts a message out to the
teenagers/parents and maybe even tattoo artist to stop getting tattoos and for
tattoo artist to stop getting people inked younger then 18.
